Abbotsbury Swannery

Abbotsbury Swannery is completely unique. It is the only place on the planet where you able to walk through the heart of a colony of nesting mute swans. It was established in the 11st century by benedictine monks who built a monastery at Abbotsbury. The monks farmed the swans for food for their lavish banquets. St Peters monestury was destroyed in 1539 during the dissolution, however some of the remains are still visible. Abbotsbury Swannery is not just an educational day out for the family, its also an erea of outstanding beauty.

At Abbotsbury Swannery you can enjoy the Gift Shop, coffe shop, childrens play erea which includes swinging nest, telescope platform, Swan maze and don't forget mass feeding between 12 and 4.

Abbotsbury Sub Tropical Gardens

           Abbotsbury Sub Tropical Gardens was voted "our favourite garden by the readers of the Daily telegraph in 2006. It was established n 1765 by the first countess of Ilchester as a kitchen garden for her nearby castle. It has developed since into a 20 acre garden filled with rare and exotic plants from all over the world. many of these plants at Abbotsbury Sub Tropical Gardens were introductions to this country discovered by the plant hunting descendants of the countess.

Since the great storm of 1990 many newexotic and unusual plants have been introduced to Abbotsbury Sub Tropical Gardens, the garden is now a mixture of formal and informal with charming walled garden walks and spectacular woodland valley views. World famous for its camellia groves and magnolias, noted for its Rhododendron and Hydrangea collections.

Abbotsbury swannery is in dorset, leave the A35 at winterborne abbas near Dorchester. Abbotsbury is on the b3157 coastal road between weymouth and bridport.
